Bear Shadow

by Frank Asch

Though not about groundhog's day, it is a great story for young children about shadows.  Also, this book would be a good introduction to the author, Frank Asch, who has several Bear books.  Reading level would be perfect for end of the year first graders, especially if used in a literature circle setting.
