If you're looking for more ways to incorporate music into your primary classroom, and would like to attend a workshop, here is a list of a few workshops that I have personally attended and found to be very valuable. Shirley Handy with The Singing-Reading Connection Shirley travels throughout the country and gives full day seminars. She uses a lot of Raffi materials. I am very impressed with Shirley's understanding of children's developmental levels and her useful tips in effective teaching practices. Her presentations are energetic, informative, and practical. You can find out more about her conference schedule by calling the National Education Network at 1-800-537-6647. She's located in Hilmar, CA.
Kathy Poelker with Look At Me Productions Kathy is a very talented musician who presents seminars around the country. Kathy has created children's albums of her own original songs, along with activity books which include lyrics, music, and extension ideas for incorporating music into your early literacy program. Her workshops are packed with useful ideas that you can use with her music, or adapt to your own favorite songs. She has a growing product line that includes albums, Big Books, and resource books for teachers. She is located in Schaumburg, Illinois, and can be reached at 1-847-885-0577.
